“I’ve exercised my entire life, but never thought I would achieve certain results because of my “body type.” I would run on the treadmill at a 6.8 pace for a few miles, do some random strength training and run a few sprints at 9.0, which I thought was really fast.
Sick of never being satisfied with my appearance, I decided to try a more structured gym. I stumbled upon a GILT promotion for Shred415. After my first two classes I could barely sit down and experienced total body soreness for the first time. I was hooked! I loved the trainers, music, atmosphere and INTENSITY. Exercise became enjoyable and empowering; it no longer felt like a chore.
Fast-forward a few years. I was a die hard Shredder running a mile in less than 6 minutes and sprinting at a 13.5. I was in the best shape of my life and finally had the results I always wanted. I continued Shredding throughout my pregnancy. I was admittedly concerned that all my hard work would be destroyed by my pregnancy, but the instructors were great with showing me modifications so I could safely keep Shredding during my pregnancy.
I credit Shred for my delivery endurance. After 16 hours of labor, I was able to push with ease and even offered more frequent and longer pushes to my doctor. I had learned proper breathing techniques during physical challenges at Shred415 and channeled this during the delivery. (Of course, the epidural did help, too.) However, the pregnancy made me gain weight in less than desirable areas and took a toll on my body.
As soon as I received clearance from my doctor, I was back at the Old Town Shred studio 4-5 days a week. I was anxious to get back into shape but worried that my body would not respond to exercise the way it had previously. Many people warned me that I’d never look the way I did pre-pregnancy, but I was determined to prove them wrong.
I signed up for Shred the Baby Bump and with the help of the Shred415 instructors, particularly Bonnie, Katie, Sean, Gideon and Cole, I was able to lose all the baby weight before the 3 months ended!
I’m back to running on an incline with ease and have been pushing myself with weights. I am even stronger now, which I didn’t think was possible. The staff commented on my transformation before I could even see it, which helped keep me motivated. It is truly a supportive family environment.
Even more important than my physical appearance, I felt like myself again. I have regained my confidence and energy. I honestly could not have gotten back into shape as quickly without Shred415. Once again, I am at my ideal weight/size with the added bonus of a perfect baby.
The Shred415 childcare staff are amazing. I was so nervous about leaving my new baby, but they made me feel comfortable. They tolerated my neurotic checking on him and staring out the door window during the entire class. They remember my son, what he likes, how to comfort him, etc. They’ve taken excellent care of him!
